Worlds here we come!!

It was 5 years ago in Montreal that we competed in our first Canadian Closed Championships together. We were the new kids on the block and made the finals and finished 5th.  We were thrilled with that result and were excited because we knew that if we worked hard enough, we could be the top two in Canada and qualify to represent our country in the World Championships.  It finally happened this year, as we placed second and will have the honor of representing Canada!

Our heartfelt thanks to everyone who supported and believed in us.  And to our dear family and friends whom we have sacrificed spending time with while pursuing our dreams, we hope you know that not a day goes by that we don't think of you.  With love, Tony and Gloria.

Alberta Winter Classic 2014

It has been many years since we last competed in Calgary.  Tony started dancing in Calgary and moved to Vancouver 7 years ago to dance with Gloria.  It has been a challenging, but rewarding path, so it is always special to go back to where it all started for him.  In fact, it was at the Alberta Winter Classic where Tony saw his first competition.  He was in awe from watching some of the top dancers in the country, and was so inspired that he decided he would find a partner and start competing.

One of our dreams is to be able to inspire other dancers, like those who have inspired us...

Tilburg Move 2014

Tilburg Moves was our first competition in the Netherlands.  It was also our last one in Europe before we headed home to Canada to compete in our national qualifier, nationals and provincial championships.  We wanted to have a great result and leave on a high note.  We placed 8th out of 45, missing the finals by two places.  It was a great result but of course, we always want more.  Overall, we enjoyed the competition, our coaches are happy with our improvement and we even had friends who came to cheer us on! It was a great weekend!

Antwerp Diamond Cup 2014

Our first big competition of the year was the Antwerp Diamond Cup in Belgium.  A rule change this year permitted younger dancers to compete in our age category, and this would be our first look at them.  They looked and danced like dancers in the adult category, and the bar had been noticeably raised.  it was a strong field of 62, and we fought thru 4 rounds to finish 11th.  We were very happy and proud of our placing to be in such great company.

The Final Grand Ball

It has been awhile since our last post.  3 months ago, we experienced a tragedy and didn't know if we wanted to dance again.  Our spirits were broken and our hearts were heavy.  However, it's times like these when dancing has helped us feel alive again and be thankful for what we can do.

"Dream as if you will live forever.  Live as if you will die today"

We came home for the final Grand Ball, as Andy and Wendy are closing The Grand Ballroom and taking their well deserved retirement.  It was an emotional night for everyone.  Gloria's parents came to watch her compete for the first time, and couldn't be prouder as we won the Sr. Championships.  We've had many great memories at the Grand Ballroom, our second home.  Thank you Andy and Wendy for giving us a world class facility to train in.

German Open Championship 2013

This is our 3rd year competing at The German Open.  It is the biggest competition in the world and attracts the very best dancers.  Last year, we finished 61st and were small fish in a very big pond.  This year, we moved up 26 places and finished tied for 35th out of 169 entries in a very high caliber field.  We enjoyed a week of meeting dancers from all over the world and look forward to coming back next year!
